Does Facebook Affect Bad Grades On College?

So far there are published various studies about the impact of Facebook and social networks on the students, and now researchers at University of Pennsylvania have published a study in which they researched how the use of Facebook affects grades in colleges.
They conducted a survey of more than 1.800 students and concluded that there is a connection between usage of the largest social network on the world and poor grades. Of all students that are surveyed, 92 percent are using Facebook, and they spend daily 106 minutes on it. Such usage of Facebook does not have any impact on the grades that students will achieve in exams but for the students who spend more than three hours a day on Facebook are noticeable poor results. Of course, the results of the exams are even worse for those who use this social network more than five or six hours a day.
In results explanation of this study is stated that there could be some 'third factor' that can affect the lower grades of students, but they have not studied it. They added that grades from high school are much better indicator for grades in college and those who had better grades in high school would have better grades in college and vice versa. However, this is why research indicated that the time that student spend on this social network is not so important, but they pointed out the connection between the way how Facebook is used with grades in exams. Users that through Facebook share links or just check out what their friends are doing, often have better grades in college. On the other hand, those who only publish status like OMG, LOL and similar statuses in which they tell what are they doing and where they are, have worse grades.
In conclusion, this study says that is important the way the Facebook is used, so if you are losing hours on trivial things, this social network can really affect the poor grades.
